At Gantri, we talk a lot about making lighting for real life. How did you consider that when designing Cantilever Collection?

I think as designers we get caught up in photoshoots and product staging. It’s just not real. I’m constantly hunting down what real people’s homes look like because at the end of the day, that’s who I'm designing for. That's where Cantilever belongs.

What inspired Smoothy? And what do you want people to feel when they see Smoothy in their homes?

When I started designing a desk light at the beginning of the summer in Brooklyn, I passed an ice cream truck playing music and saw people holding cones of soft serve. That moment at the start of summer is magical, and sweet treats like ice cream and frozen yogurt feel nostalgic in a way. I really wanted to capture that feeling for people at home, especially in the home office where things can get quite serious.

Where do you usually look for inspiration when designing something new?

I think looking for inspiration means opening your mind to the world and finding surprising moments that might not be so obvious.
